Total Fish/Sizes : 9 bass, 5.9,4.0,3.8,6<14" culls, 3 large crappie
Lures Used : bg swimbait, bladeshad, senko

Son and I fished Triple J on Thursday from 1-7:30 pm for the first time.  The solunar tables had predicted strong activity at 2-4 pm.  I guess the forecast was correct since all fish were caught between 1:15-3:30 pm.  After 3:30pm we could not buy a hit. Total shut down of all activity including jumping shad.

The bite was fairly good when we first arrived. Water was 88 deg. Vis was stained at about 1 ft.  Lots of shad activity all over the lake, particularly by the dam. We landed nine bass and three large 14” crappie.  Top three bass were 5.9, 4.0, 3.8 lbs (pics below).

We were catching here and there with no real concentration in one spot.  The largest fish was just under 6lbs on 4” bluegill swimbait caught at 2pm. All three largest fish were caught on the north end deep brush with fast retrieve.  Crappie and cull bass caught deep near the dam, also with quick retrieve.  No bites on slow lures.  Even senkos were bitten on the retrieve instead of the normal dead stick bite.

We stuck it out until 7:30 until we caught one more cull after 4 hours of no activity, and decided we were too heat exhausted to stay for the evening bite. Filleted our crappie and culls and called it a day.

Worked: 4” bluegill swimbait, 3/8 oz chatterbait, steelshad 3”, 5”senko, all on quick retrieve.

Didn’t work: Anything slow, TXrig, Carolina rig, drop shot, big spinnerbait, popper/spook.

Slabs:                                                          Sam's 4lber
