Club member Tom Dillion and I fished Timber Lake from 6:20 to 12:00 noon under blue skys and very calm conditions. In fact, 75-80% of the time the surface was glassy and a reflective photographers paradise (but not so much for fishermen). We boated 15 fish total, 9 for Tom and 6 for me, ranging in size from 6" long to several right at three pounds. The overwhelming majority were found within 6-8' of the emerged vegetation edge along the banks. A few strikes occurred around timber and a single open water paddle tail swimbait strike occurred. There was a surprising paucity of topwater action. In fact, we did not even see any appreciable surface action throughout the morning. Tom had a few strikes on a hollow body frog but we had none on whopper plopper, buzzbait, Zona Spook, poppers, or superfluke fished rapidly as a topwater lure. Most effective were Wacky rigged senko green with red flake, the 12 inch green curly tail worm as a weightless TR, all when fished around the vegetation. Crankbaits, chatterbaits, other color worms and other creature baits, Jigs with craw trailers, and a variety of other lures including flutter spoons "we tried out" were for naught.
The particulars: air was 72 at outset up to 88 at noon. Water temp was low 80's on the surface, water level high. Water is greenish, murky with visibility up to 2 feet. The wind was 0 most of the day with occasional puff's of 1-2 mph. Blue partly cloudy sky.
The road into the property is in good shape save a few holes to avoid. For those who have not been to this property, it is majestic with an enormous amount of standing timber and lay downs. Thanks again to Steve, Cole and PWF for providing such a great place.
