Fished Leinweber on Saturday, May 25th, in the morning with Andy Dear and his son Jackson.

Conditions:

Water temp: Upper 70’s

Air temp: Upper 70’s to mid-80’s

Water clarity: 2 ft

Wind: Gusty, 15-20

Sky: Cloudy. pt cloudy, pt clear, two or three periods of short, medium rain

Results:

Myself: Only one three pounder in a chatter bait near the dam around 11:30 (almost my first skunk in about 6 years with PWF – says something nice about Steve and the group; not about my fishing skills)

Andy: Several small ones and a couple of keepers.

Jackson: Several over 4 pounds and a five pounder (Yea Jackson!!!!)

Totals:

11 culls

6 returned

Al least 6 were not boated (half culls)

Successful lures:

Chatter bait (if you can call one landed success)

Carolina rig with fluke new grass edge in 10-15 ft of water

Unweighted senko

I also tried:

Unweighted and weighted

senko (with and without spinner tail)

Paddle tail

Fluke

Swim jig

Jigging around the standing timbers

Rattletrap and crank running between the dam and opposite bank

Grass is starting to get dense around the shore and it is making it difficult to launch as the water is high enough to still cover the large flat where you could previously launch.

Maybe PWF can ask the owner for temporary approval to launch personal small boats where their boat is stored.

Bill,

Members can launch where they like at this location. There is not an improved launch area so launching anywhere is OK. We choose this launch site as we felt this area was better that the other side of the dam. The lake level was likely 4 feet lower when we choose this spot 2 years ago. If some where else is better, by all means use it.

Steve. Thanks for the quick response. That will make launching much easier.

Bill,

I’m ok with the weeds, but can you give me some info about the road? Does it require 4wd? I’ve never been there, but I have it booked for for next Saturday.  I have a 2wd Silverado that seems to get stuck in just about anything.

Thanks,

Jason

Jason. The road is a little rutted, but nothing that needs 4X drive. I have a 2X 4-runner and I have had not issues with Leinweber.

Good luck fishing
