Fished Lake Thrallveston Friday May 17th with a friend. Rained overnight then cloudy to partly cloudy and breezy turning windy 15-20 mph. Water temp 80.2 degrees and heavy stained water with about 10” visibility. All in all, a fun day on an interesting property.
Fished from 11:30 to 6:00 and caught 7 bass from 2 to 4.2 pounds. All were strong fighters. And all were caught tight to cover.
We did NOT catch them where others have (northwest corner at dam) but our two biggest were near the center of the lake at the shallow south end where others have NOT reported catches. Both 4 pounders were caught in less than 2.5 ft of water. One beside a large log in 2’ and another at the base of the 4” PVC pipe that marks the creek channel that runs south to north.
Met Hal the owner who told us about the creek inlet at the center of the south end of the lake. It looks like random weed beds but it camouflages the creek entrance which runs 5’ deep or more in places.
All bass were caught on shad colored metal flake weighted Super Flukes. No luck with Senkos, crankbaits or topwaters. Worked the marked brush piles but no luck there either. Ended our day when high winds and white caps made casting and boat control difficult.
Lake access was quick and easy and the concrete boat ramp was a plus. Had lunch at the covered patio area near the covered boat dock.
As other reports and the lake description says, this lake can be satisfying or humbling. We didn’t catch any hogs but no dinks either.
