Reservation Number : 20233
Property Name : Hat and Star Ranch
Reservation Date : 03/23/2019 All Day -
Total Fish/Sizes : 20 fish, 14 were culls, 6 returned at 2-3 lb avg.
Lures Used : senko, jerk bait

My 11YO son and I fished all day and camped 2 nights at Hat and Star Mar 23.

Lake is very clear, full to rim and 63 deg with 6ft vis.  Grass is just getting started at 2ft off bottom in most areas. Lake is very well layed out for bass.  All types of structure present.

We landed 20 fish, 14 were culls, 6 returned at 2-3 lb avg.  Big ones that got away: Sam had one right to the boat I was calling 6+ lb, dove under log, broke line and gone.

I had a heavy fish on a jerk bait in 10ft water, wrestled it in the stickups for a minute.  It too wrapped deep in a log jam, broke off 15lb test.  There are definitely big fish here. I may try braid with flouro tippet next time in the sticks.

We tent camped 2 nights here with heavy wind storm on second night.  If you are camping here I advise bringing earplugs as the coyotes here are numerous, loud, and out playing every night.

Sounds like a great time with your son. Those coyotes can be relentless when you're trying to get some sleep.
