Had wonderful weather for the last day of winter. Breezy with a high of 72°. Water clear to 6 ft. About 59° water. Lots of vegetation mostly below the surface but navigation was no problem - the bass love it! Fished with my son Brian. I am retired but my son is a bit of a workaholic so I was pleased to get them out on the lake. Access in was no problem - we just had to shoe away a few cows to get to the launch area. lol

Lake descriptions and reports mentioned lots of small fish so we had low expectations for the day. We weren’t fishing 10 minutes before Brian caught a 6 pounder on a weighted super fluke near the overflow outlet. A few hours later I caught my own six, also on a super fluke just inside the creek area. We finished the evening with top waters until sundown and he caught his personal best top water fish with a whopper popper 75.

Weird story: Was fishing with a magnum fluke and a 6/0 hook when I saw a big swirl near my lure. Then a huge solid strike on my lure - set the hook and my line was cleanly cut. I'm pretty sure one of the big turtles there took a liking to my fluke!

Met the Moodys, the owners, and a few of their critters - all very friendly. They seemed a bit surprised at our big fish catches. Steve told me they didn't shock up anything that big when they evaluated the lake.

All in all a great day!

Thanks, guys. The PB was the 5 pounder - Brian’s biggest caught on a topwater. It was a huge blowup then a fight. Fish jumped twice and was lipped with only one small hook in its lip. Glad to get her in the boat.

Congrats Larry! Looked like a great day on the water, love fishing those super flukes on a donkey rig!
