Second time that I caught a double and there was also a trailing bass. Got them in the net and the largest was 20” and weighed 4.7#.  The other was over 16”.

I caught three others and no culls. All were caught in 8ft or less on a green tomato shallow diving square billed crank.

I tried unsuccessfully

  Spinner

  Chatter bait

   Senior

   Paddle tail

Conditions

Very windy

Temps 46-60

Water temp. 53

Clarity: 2-3 ft

Hi Bill, what are the lake conditions like now? Weed beds? Water level?

Water level is high - over the swimming pier. Very few weed beds. Except for the wind yesterday conditions were great. Fishing Tarpley tomorrow afternoon if you are available.

Well done, Mr. Fetech! That's a pretty good bag for this time of year!

Mr Dillon (such formality):  thanks

I was also surprised that all they hit on was a fast/erratic shallow running crank bait.

Bill, the only thing that surprised me was your mentioning a fast retrieve. I caught a lot of winter bass at Medina Lake, Calaveras, Braunig, and Inks while living in San Antonio and Austin in the 70s and 80s, but pretty much only on slow retrieves and a lot of 'deadsticking.' Fast retrieves worked for me on the Comal River at and upstream from Landa Park, but that was spring water that probably never cooled below 60 degrees. You did well!
