I went with my two adult sons to Clarksville Alysha ranch for two half days and a night at the lake and cabin. Weather was cool but perfect for fishing. Recent floods had saturated the ground making the launch area challenging, but we managed ok. Val, the owner met us there and offered some fishing tips - "biggest ones near the dam and stickups near points." That proved to be true.
Our go to lure was the Senko. Size and color didn't matter much, but my favorite is the 5" pumpkinseed in various "flavors". In about 8-9 total hours of fishing we caught over 30 bass with only one dink. All were 2 to 4.5 pounds. Youngest son caught his PB, 4.5 pounds!
Oldest son put it on us catching almost half of our total catch.
We had 'doubles" twice:
I lost a 6-7 pounder near the dam. Ugh!
The cabin was great as expected, and the campfire in the fire ring was wonderful. The remote location is great for stargazing and we were blessed with clear skies that night. So I was able to practice one of my latest interests - astrophotography. Here are two favorites taken around midnight:
All in all, an awesome trip. As both sons said, "best fishing trip ever!" Thank you to Steve and the PWF staff for helping this trip to happen, and special thanks to Val for making this property available. Our photos and memories are priceless!
