I took my son and his friend to fish the west lake at Ben Wheeler on the afternoon of 11/25.  It was pretty slow.  We got a few hits on the shallow end on plastic worms, but there's a lot of hydrilla that frequently hung us up.   We worked our way along the far bank toward the dam with not so much as a bite.  Finally toward sunset things picked up a bit.  My son's friend landed a 7 1/2 lb. bass which measured 24".  I caught a  4 1/2 lb. catfish on a medium diving crank bait, and my son caught a 12" bass on a plastic worm.  Usually I can pick up a few fish around sunset on a fly rod using poppers, but no luck this time.  All in all it was a slow but very memorable day due to the 7 1/2 lb. brute.   I've only caught one fish that big on a club lake which I landed at the east lake.  We celebrated Tyler's catch over beers and pizza while listening to live music in town at The Forge.

Fixed the picture for you… Great fish at Twin Lakes, and a fantastic winter-time bass. Thank you very much for sharing. Cole PWF

Thanks for the report. The grass in the lake is native coontail not hydrilla.

Nicely done, Cole. My PB came from the west lake a couple of years ago on April Fools Day - a 10-01 on a Ribbit frog.
