Toad
Unfortunately, I got trapped in the backup from a major accident on 635 & Coit, so i didn’t get to the property until 8:00. It was overcast with a strong SSE wind, so I decided to start on the west lake. I fished it from 8:30 until 12:30. It was really slow, and all I had boated when I left were 6 bass over 14", 2 dinks, and a few missed opportunities on a HB frog. The biggest was just under 2.5 pounds, and they hit from 1' near the east end down to 8-9' by the dam. Water clarity on the west lake was about 3 feet, and the water temp climbed from 70.7° to just under 72° while I was there.
I fished the east lake from 1:15 until 5:30 under clearing skies, with the wind even stronger, gusting to about 25 mph. Water temperature and clarity there were about the same as at the west lake, as was the bite. I boated only five bass over 14” long, plus 8 dinks. All were released. Caught bass from surface down to 9' (by old creek channel).
The grass is dying - black and stringy – in both lakes. No pads remain at either lake. Both lakes are down about 1.5-2 feet, and I would have had a tough time pulling my trailer out of the mud without all-wheel drive.
Although I did a lot more fishing than catching, it was great to be outdoors again - and that sunset was gorgeoous!
