Windy day at Blackjack

Had an OK day even with the high winds. Started out in our boat (took my son with me) but that only lasted about an hour and a half. We then fished off of the dock and bank. With winds blowing 20 mph and more it was tough to get things going.

We ended up catching 11 bass and one large blue gill. Only one cull that was about 10". The rest were nice fish in the 2-3 1/2 lb range. Caught everything on rattle traps and crank baits. Tried several other tactics with no luck. A frog along the bank actually generated a few strikes but no hook ups. Lost a total of about 6-7 that either threw thew hook, didn't hook up (on the frogs) and broke a line once. Don't think the one that broke the line was a giant, just had a chink in the line we didn't see. Caught most casting out to mid lake and a few around some grass off the shoreline.

It was still an enjoyable day despite fighting strong and gusty winds. I can see where this would be a very productive lake in normal weather conditions. Will definitely return to try it again. Hopefully with much less wind.

Thanks PWF for hooking us up with this great property.

Dennis. Great report; too bad about the wind. Headed there next week. How was the grass on the end opposite the dam?

Bill,

As of a few weeks ago, the submerged grass on the shallow end was fairly thick in places and some thin mats had developed.  This may have changed given the first real cold front happened after I last fished.  I caught some on topwater in the holes between the mats and others between the grass and the shore in very shallow water.  No real size the last few trips.
