Fished Timber Lake on Friday morning 8/18. The lake is full, and the water very clear considering the 8 inches of rain they had in the area in the 3 days before my trip. Weed growth is good, but not excessive. Needed 4wd to get up the hill when you leave the pasture and before turning left. Of course, it rained hard on Thursday, so i'm sure it's no problem now.
Fishing was good (normal!!) mostly on topwaters (white YM and bone ZS). My guest and I boated 24 of which only 2 were harvested. Our largest was 4.15, and most were around 3 pounds. We caught 3 on texas rigs, but everything else was on a topwater. We quickly discovered that throwing from the deep to the shallow was not the pattern. The fish were suspended (chasing shad) out in the deeper water, so we began throwing topwaters out into the deeper water. They were very aggressive, sometimes hitting it hard 3 times before getting it in their mouth. You would think with that pattern we would have seen some schooling action, but we saw none.
we quit a little early, with no wind and a hot sun, it was almost unbearable. another great morning on a great PWF lake.
