My brother in law and I went out to Giddings for the morning. Got there at 645 and left just before noon. Landed 15 with a 6.2 and a 5.4 both on worms. Culled 2. Brutal wind but it kept it somewhat cool given the mid 90s temps. Lots of grass on the opposite side of the pier.

The "highlight" of the day was when my bro in law hooked up one on a whopper plopper. He was fishing towards the bank and I was fishing deep and when I turned around to see his action a fish jerked the rod out of my hand. Without hesitation I did the prettiest swan dive you ever did see followed by a Michael Phelps like swim sprint chasing my rod. I caught up to it after 20 feet or so. My bro in law got a nice 3.5lber. All I ended up with was a soaked iphone.

Sounds like a really great time, and y'all had lots of fun. Glad you were able to recover your rod; it's unfortunate about the iPhone, however.

If y'all got any pics of your big bass, and if you wanted to send them to me I would be happy to post them for you.

Andrew. Welcome to the cell phone dunking club. Mine was at Gallant Elms several years ago. Those cases that say there are waterproof are a joke.

Cole, unfortunately the pictures went down with my phone. I'm going to Apple today to see if I can retrieve anything off of it. I hope I can get it because the biggest of the day had a very strange wound underneath its jaw. It was more than an inch long and went all the way through the flesh. It was not a knife-like cut but more like another fish bit it or one of the caracaras/herons got it. I have never seen anything like it.

Meant to include in my original post but the last three times at Giddings I have been fishing really slow wacky with a pumpkin senko with chartreuse tail and dipped it in garlic. Seems to have resulted in bigger bites/fish. Last time out I had a monster bite but lost it. This time we caught a couple real nice fish and had a big bite that we lost. I caught the nice one this time under the tree by the pier. This is the first time I've caught a decent fish there but given it was so hot and there is limited cover it makes sense. The other bites/fish were over between the southernmost PVC and the dam.

Andrew. That area between the PVC Post and the dam has been good for me using a rattletrap and a square billed crank bait. Of course there is always the issue of the brush pile and the dual treble hooks on the rattletrap.
