Son and I fished Timber Lake today. The drive took us an hour longer than normal because of the torrential downpour we ran into. We arrived onsite at about 7:30a and had to sit in the truck for another hour and a half while it continued to rain. By 9:15a the rain let up to a light sprinkle so we made our way on the water. By 10:00a the rain appeared to be gone and then at about 11:30a we got soaked for about 20 minutes before our morning trip was complete at 12p.

Despite the heavy rainfall, we managed to catch some fish. We caught roughly 12-14 fish, largest LMB going for just over 4 lbs and smallest was less than 3 inches long, that was the only cull fish. My son caught a couple bluegill and a few nice bass. I had a pretty good day with the larger fish and probably 7 or 8 ranging from 1.5 lb to 4+ with most of those over 3 lbs.

The fish wanted my swimbait today, they just could not resist it. Also fooled a couple with the chugger. My son boated a 3 lber on a crank and had some fun with a road runner.

What didn't work: Spinners, frogs, jigs, brush hogs, Jackall-Pompadour (my son is determined to catch one on that thing)

Billy don't fret buddy, my son does the exact same thing. I call it force feeding bass. But once he gets in his head he wants to catch a fish on a certain bait, he does.  Hard headed. He probably gets that from his momma, it couldn't be from me.

I fished there for 4 hours on Friday afternoon. They were chasing shad in the middle of the lake. Caught 10-15 throwing traps, swim baits and crank baits in the balls of schooling shad. We caught another 15-20 on T-rigged plastics all in the timber. Big fish was 4.7 with 10 or so over 3 lbs. most of the others were 2 to 2.5 lbs. culled 2 fish. Most of The bigger fish were chasing shad.

I saw that Paris got 4 inches and Sulfur Springs also received 4 inches of rain Saturday night.  So I'm guessing Sulfur Bluff was in that ball park. Got to be good for helping to fill Deer Trail. Have  the forage fish been added to the new lake?  Maybe 2 to 3 years away from enjoying it again. Just loved that setting in the woods.  I'm hoping to stay on this side of grass to get to fish it again in the future.
