Departed West Houston at 4:45AM and arrived at property at 6:15AM. Overall morning conditions: 6:15 to 9AM calm, no wind, no clouds air temp 75F, 9 -12 noon steady gently wind maybe up to 4mph from the south, no clouds air temp moving thru the 80"s to low 90's.
Tried two types of topwater lures (spook jr and popper) for 30 minutes from the south bank with no activity. Launched my kayak and tried the two feeder creek channels, nada. Moved eastward along the north shore throwing everything with no luck until 9AM when the wind started up. Fish turned on for the next two hours along the north shore from the small inlet by the picnic area to the drain midway down the dam. Caught 8 bass from 9 - 11AM on a white chatterbait (crimped down the barb) with a smoke or shad paddletail trailer (they definitely preferred the small 3" paddletails over the 5" paddletails. Caught a 19", 17", three 16", two 14" and a 12". Also landed a good size pan fish. Bite went cold at 11am. Ended the day at noon.
Also tried t-rigged watermelon worms, cranks, and lipless cranks with no success!
Waved to Mr. Stanley as he drove across the dam.
Will be back to try my luck this fall once it cools down.
