Fingerling
I took Pat, a guest, to Blackjack 6/23/27. We fished from 6:30 am to about 1:30 pm when the heat (97 deg) did us in. The lake was about 6 inches low, but the water quality and color were excellent. There was a large amount of hair-like grass on the shallow bottom and floating free, so cleaning lures was a routine, after every cast sometimes.
We caught fish all over the lake. The most effective lure was a motor oil or pumpkin seed worm with chartreuse tail, fished from the bank all the way into the channel near the dock. We added a few on weightless senko, and a couple on crankbaits and swimbaits. There was a good topwater bite early, with several good hits on a floating frog, and good fish on a chatterbug. Total caught: about 25, with only 6 below 14". Big fish was just under 5 lbs.
I reported to the office that some of the fish were extremely thin, especially a number of fish that should have been 3 lbs but were below 2 lbs.
All in all, Pat said he has a great day on the water, so SUCCESS! Next up for me—JerMar on July 3!
Tight Lines!
