We stayed at the cabin Friday 6/2 and Saturday 6/3 and fished Athens NE the evening of 6/2, full day 6/3, and morning of 6/4. The scattered showers throughout the weekend made the fishing very interesting. When we first arrived we had a decent bite for about 2 hours before storms rolled in and the fishing slowed to a crawl. The next morning was one of the slowest I have had, we caught a couple fish but we really had to work to get them. During the day proved to be just as tough when suddenly at around 6p, the fish just woke up and started hitting just about anything we threw. We caught several nice fish during this time and then at about 7:30p, they went back into hiding and wouldn’t hit anything. It’s really is mysterious how they act this way. The next morning was very slow as well, we caught a few but it was slow.

During our stay, we caught two 5+ lbers, three 4+, and at least 12 3+lbers, and just as many in the 1-2 lb range. I tell ya, this is an awesome lake to fish for the numbers and quality of fish. This lake is not harvesting at this time and even if it was, we would have only kept probably 2 fish under 14” the whole weekend, everything we caught was fat and healthy.

When the top water was on, they liked chuggers and spooks. They didn’t even look at watermelon flukes. Caught one fish on a crank, I think we got one on a senko and one nice one on creature bait and all the others were on weightless lizards. Most of the good fish were caught out in the middle of the lake and then by the dam. There are good amounts of bait fish (bream and tilapia) holding and bedding all along the dam and the bigger bass are out about 20’ – 30’ from the bank, this is where the two largest bass were that we caught.

The A frame cabin is very nice and the owners are very welcoming. I highly recommend this property for fishing and lodging. We will definitely be returning soon.
