Slot Fish
I had a great but short afternoon fishing under bluebird skies on Tuesday. Short because I took my wife as a non-fishing guest for the first time and because I we spent time making her first voyage on my Predator MK fishing kayak and rigging up an anchor handling system. Good News: even though she said it seemed like we were there forever, the snake really didn't get that close and she enjoyed both paddling and running the motor on the kayak.
In 3 1/2 fishing hours I landed 22 bass between 14" and 20". Most were 15-18" with 4 at 19-20". I started throwing a diving crank past the end of the stump line, drifting with the somewhat obnoxious wind until I was almost to the center of the lake and then going back to the stumps furthest from shore. I caught 5 and then things slowed down so I switched to a swimbait; nothing. I tried a worm; nothing and a jig; nothing. Back to the same crankbait and caught some more. The pattern repeated with 19 caught on a crank until I went under the bridge and caught 3 on a spinnerbait in the shallows. Although some of the bass were relating to stumps, almost half were caught further out toward the center where there were a couple of instances of chasing on the surface. I left with the fish still biting (Ouch, that hurts!).
