When I first talked to Steve about joining the club, he suggested several properties to Trial fish.  One was Timber Lake.  I was sold on the club, so I never did a trial.  Well, it took me 15 months to fish Timber Lake.  Wow, what a unique property!

Water temp:  63 – 72 degrees

Air temp:  50 – 72 (after cold front moved in Saturday)

Wind:  10 – 20 mph, from the North most of day

Water clarity:  Clear, 3 – 4 ft

Had another great day on the water last Sunday.  My son & I fished hard from 7:45am to 7:45pm.  After a slow start along the dam (no fish), my son boated our first fish (a 4-7) on a green jig w/ a craw trailer at 8:40 in the timber (left arm, from the dam).  That was the bait of the day.

We caught 19 fish, with only one dink.  I caught the biggest fish of the day, a 4-13, on a similar green jig (at 5:15pm).  Late in the day (6 – 7:30pm), the timbered point across from the covered structure between the two arms really produced well.

Never been on a lake with more bites.   We caught only 1 of every 3 or 4 bites we had.   As expected, we got hung up in the brush more than normal.  But as my Dad used to say, that’s where the fish are!  We may have lost some bigger fish that broke off in the timber.

The post cold front conditions ceased any kind of topwater bite all day long, which was disappointing after recent reports.  The only TW action was on a Yellow Magic along the dam at 3:20.  Our only harvested fish of the day and surprisingly, only fish caught along the dam.  Zero frog fish, including ribbit, buzz frog and a hollow body.  No luck either on a new MTBox Double Plopper.

Also caught fish on T-rig senkos, crawfish baits, white jig, & other soft plastics. No fish on spinner baits, crank baits or wacky rigs.  We caught more tied up to the timber, than trolling.

I added a rudder for the first time purchased from PWF member, John Jordan.  It worked well in the windy conditions. . Many solo trips on windy days were spent spinning in circles with no rudder. We had 3 nutria follow us around along the banks of the left arm in the am. I hope to be back soon !
