It’s hard for me to believe that this is my 100th report on the fishing reports forum.  It seems like just yesterday that I was catching my first bass on Easter Weekend at Thompson Ranch but that was back in 2013.  One hundred reports later I was back at a favorite lake at Post Oak also on Easter weekend.

Over the last few years I have had the chance to spend some quality time with friends and family.  I have been privileged to be a spectator to the majesty of our creator in the form of sunrises and sunsets, pastoral settings that take the breath away.  I have seen wildlife and wildflowers.  I have seen foggy mornings that seemed to envelope the whole world in quiet and I’ve seen blue skies that seemed to reach the heavens. I’ve been able to say hello to some new friends and had the opportunity to say farewell to a few others.  I’ve forged some great memories. Reel solitude indeed!  Oh and I almost forgot…I have had a chance to catch a lot of fish!  I believe that it was Thoreau who wrote…Many men go fishing their whole lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.  Occasionally I am reflective enough to recognize the truth in that statement.  So my hat is off to Steve, Seth Keri and all of the club members and ranch owners that make our club special.

Now on to the fishing.  I was able to spend Good Friday with my beautiful  wife fishing on the scenic Post Oak Ranch.  I started off fishing a Yellow Magic and was able to immediately catch the first of two six-pounders.  The top water bite lasted until 9:30 and then the wind picked up.  The fish were receptive to most of my lures but it was like I was fishing behind someone who was fishing everything but swimbaits.  I used a bluegill swimbait to catch the majority of the larger fish.  This was the only lure that the fish hit with abandon.  All the other lures they seemed to hit very timidly.  So…. I stuck mostly to swimbaits.  I did catch a few later in the day on a Zara Spook.   The water was a bit stained, I suppose from runoff.  The best action was on the windblown side of the lake.  Most of the fish were 2-6 pounds with almost no dinks.

I wanted to say a special thanks to the landowners for letting us share this little slice of heaven with your family on Easter weekend.  We had a blast!
