First trip as a new member….....................Commuted 3 1/2 hours from East Houston to Black Jack Ranch. Wow! Beautiful property once the heavy fog lifted. Launched our Hobie 17 Tandem Pro Angler Kayak with the fog so thick you could barely see your hand in front of your face. Started fishing with spinner baits, chatter baits and crank baits with very little success. My brother went to a Big 6" Bass Pro Shop Tournament Series (Candy Corn) Stick-O and the aggressive strikes began. Throwing the weightless Stick-O (number 4 wide gap hook) up on the bank about a foot and dragging it softly into the water all the way around the entire lake perimeter created a strike frenzy. We call these baits cheeto's because the color pattern is one in the same. Over 130 strikes with 71 three (3) to five (5) pound bass boated and released. 11 solid hours of chunking and cranking. Surprisingly no dinks…..................very little success fishing in the middle around the deep end close to the dam. Highly recommend this lake for numbers. All solid post spawn fish…...........although pre spawn/spawn weights would have been fun. Met the owner of the ranch. She was very nice and accommodating. All in all a great first trip experience! Can't wait to try the next location looking for a Double D!

Philip. Welcome to the club. Great report. I was there during the pre-spawn and the weights were incredible.

Forgot to mention that I also fish from a kayak. It is a Predator XL with the Minn Kota trolling motor.

Philip,

Welcome to the club.  You picked a great lake for your first trip.  Your technique is a good one for this lake but I have to admit that the worm color is new to me.  That said, my son used a cotton candy (pink) trick worm to catch 10 bass there on his first trip. Like Bill Fetech, I fish from an Old Town Predator MK (or from the bank or a jonboat; whatever works for the lake and wind conditions).  The post-spawn fish are definitely lighter but they seem more aggressive now.

Phillip,

I live in Humble and have bank fished Black Jack many times but not with the results you posted. I was so excited, I almost went out and bought a kayak and some candy corn.  But after I calmed down, I thought better of it. Good luck and would guess you will have great reports from other properties.
