Slot Fish
Started fishing at first light; the kind of morning i love. No wind, and a fog rising off the water due to the 40 degree air temp. Coyotes were howling all around the lake, which gave it a spooky feeling. No action in the morning with the fish, until i got around to the brush piles opposite the launch ramp. Caught several nice ones (5.50 biggest) from them on a yellow magic and a texas rigged green pumpkin zoom ol' monster worm. I returned to those brush piles every couple of hours, and caught 2-3 every time. That number could have been a lot more, but the little ones have a problem getting that 10.5 inch worm in their mouth. Towards evening, found some other big ones at the treeline on the north bank; it gets real shallow there, and the trees are pretty thick. hung a real nice 5.77 on a yellow magic that almost tore the lure apart. switched to a different yellow magic, and hung another big one 2 casts later that pulled drag more than the 5.77 had. This time, it got caught up in the thick brush, and i lost it.
ended the day with 22 total; 12 harvested. i looked for fish on beds, but only saw a few small ones, and they were not locked on. i think because the water is so clear, they probably spawn in 6-7 fow and you just have a hard time seeing them. of the fish i cleaned, half of them still had eggs, so i know they are still spawning there. The water temps ranged from 68 to 72, and is clear with only a few areas that have some grass to fish.
something i've never seen - in the top of the largest tree in the water, there was a dead crane hanging near the top. it looks like it got it's neck caught in a fork of one of the limbs and couldn't get out.

Thanks for the report. Seeing the crane hanging in that tree is definitely eery looking!
