TIME: 7:30am to 11:30 (4 hours).
LAKE LEVEL/CLARITY: Lake is at its fullest point and is equal to the overflow. The clarity was considered stained, but plenty of visibility for fishing.
FISHING VESSELS: one by kayak, and one bank fishing. Bank fishing was a little difficult as the grass is high from the rains. We did see a few snakes (non-poisonous), and the water had flooded the shallow ends and was difficult to get close enough to cast out.
FISH SIZE AND QUANTITY: As noted in previous reports, our size of fish match up (2 - 3lbs, 5 - 1.5-3 lbs, 7 - <10").
FISH LOCATION: The fishing was good on the north end of the lake (opposite of the dam). No bites were had anywhere but the north end of the lake.
LURES USED:
Fly-Fisherman had success on pink bunny leeches. Bait Cast had success on shallow running crankbaits and frog soft plastics. Top water action did not occur, but was attempted.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE:
Overall, with about 14 fish caught, we were very pleased with results of our 1/2 day trip. Because of the small area where the fish were located, it would have been tough to fish more than half day because the fish were stacked up in less than an acre of water. It is not common to be able to say, I fished 4 hours, caught 7 fish each and biggest 3- lbs, 1.25 hours from your home.
Stanley came down to introduce himself to us and told us that we could drive on down to where we needed to go, but I would rather just stay on the gravel road until I get a better feel for the land. He told us of the fish kill that occurred last year, and he is hopeful that the lake will continue to produce. He has a great piece of property, saw a few deer, lots of flowers, and tightened a line on some fish. Nothing better.
