Well…I decided to stick with my reservation today despite the thunderstorms and rain.  I'm glad I did.

When I arrived at the lake, the rain and thunderstorms hadn't arrived yet so I immediately got out in the boat and landed 5 fish within 10-15 minutes on a spinnerbait along the dam.  After seeing the thunder and rain over the horizon I decided to dock the boat and get some sleep in the truck until it passed.

After a 1 hour powernap, the thunder was gone but the rain wasn't….it kept going from heavy rain to light rain so I decided to simply fish from the bank near the overhand at the dock entry and caught about half of my dinks right in that area….along with some decent 1-2 lbrs.  Whenever the rain would get heavy, I'd go back under the overhang.

The bad weather finally let up around 10 AM and I got in the boat and began hammering the fish along the dam.  I noticed the spinnerbait was no longer working so went to weightless senkos which worked until about 1130.  I probably could've fished all day at the dam as the fish were really on a roll there, but decided to venture off into other areas of the lake since I had a full day.

Towards the end of the dam, I noticed the bite turned off for senkos as it did for the spinnerbaits.  When I hit the east shoreline I went to a Texas Rigged powerworm and began caching fish every 15 yards or so.  I also went to a drop shot rig and began reeling in even more fish and decided to alternate between the two if I got "tired" of using one over the other.  When I got to the timber I began reeling in better quality fish all over that area…..drop shotting worked better than Texas Rig in that area.  I did try some lures in that area with no luck.

I then decided to go hit the timber in the deeper water and pulled out 1-3 quality fish every other tree that I hit.  I then veered off to the north side and got into a good group of fish along the weedline, as well as on the east bank.

I then decided to hit up the dam again and caught quite a few more fish on texas rig and drop shot.  I then went back to the northeast corner timber/lilly pad area and pulled out even bigger fish than earlier in the day using drop shot.

I then decided to end the day by working the dam a third time on my way back to the dock and caught quite a few there as well.

Overall, I caught around 53 fish, culled 12 dinks (half which were caught near the dock when I was grounded due to the rain/storm), and lost maybe 15-20 fish.  Drop shotting is tough for me to get the hook set on a spinning rig vs baitcast rig so I lost quite a few fish….including a MONSTER at the dam and on one of the deep standing timber trees.  Plus some of the fish weren't easy to land on the lighter line I use when drop shotting.  Biggest fish for the day was around 4-5 lbs.  In all honestly, finesse fishing/plastics worked magic for me today.  I think if there was no rain/thunder this morning, I would've broke my personal best for the most fish caught in a day.  Again, finesse fishing/plastics were money all day long.   I did see the owner come out to work on the other boat and I wanted to go and meet him but was way on the other side of the lake.  Now, I'm going to get some sleep as my arm feels "wore out" from today——really glad I followed through with this trip.  I'll be coming back end of the month….this is a fantastic lake to fish for sure!

Nicholas.  WOW!! Amazing that the storm did not kill the bite. I have not found any unproductive section of that location.

Escondido is by far the best Bass fishing I’ve ever experienced. Its obscene how agressive and powerful those fish are. Mark, the owner told us there were some BIG fish in there. I believe it as Jackson hooked and lost one two weeks ago we estimated at 7+.
