When planning this trip I had to decide did I want to fish in the morning or afternoon. For some reason I picked the afternoon. Maybe in the back of my mind I didn't want to fight rush hour or getting out of bed, who knows. But the choice was the right one to fish the afternoon. The morning I would have been caught on 75 in Van Alstyne with that police chase.
We got on the water at noon and my thoughts were to first fish the southeast corner past the concrete spillway. We picked up a few in the 2 to 3 pound range. From there we headed up the east bank throwing frogs and flukes. We fought a steady wind but dropped anchor when things got promising. The best for the afternoon was at just 4 pounds with most others in that 3 pound range. We did harvest 12 bass all around 12 inches. Must have been a good hatch that year. We ended the afternoon with 35 bass. Just a lot of fun fishing watching the ducks and listening to a bullfrog. Some fish looked like they had already spawned while others still fat with eggs. Only caught a couple that I thought were males with their beat up tails. Last time here water was 60 degrees yesterday 70 degrees. 10 degrees really turns on the metabolism plus post spawn. We only fished the lower lake and it is full.
