Pretty slow day at Blackjack

Fished Blackjack from early morning till about 2pm. Thought it might be a decent fishing day because there was a west wind coming in before the cold front. Caught 5 fish between 2 and 3 pounds all on square bill crank bait. Nothing on jigs, senkos variously rigged, lizards, spinnerbait, creature baits. Temperature got up into the 70,s and the water temp was 59 to 60 degrees at trolling motor depth. Wind picked up some making boat control a little difficult as well as creating difficulties presenting  lightly weighted plastics or no weight which I usually do well with here.

Meet the owner of the property and she is extremely pleasant and thanked all of us who fish her lake. Slow day here and still over ten to twelve pounds. Thanks for PWF

Steve

Was hoping for a better day and given the warmer temps I thought they'd be pretty active. So much for figuring out the pattern at Black Jack. I'm going next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Fished over at the north end close to where trees are piled up on shore and close to the road between the pond and the lake. Think this will be a good area as the days get longer and water warms. Looked like a good spawning area. Thewater was the clearest I have seen on this lake. Could see three or more feet in this area. Good luck

I noticed clarity as well which forced me to put the rod w the braid away for the afternoon. I was using braid on my frog but saw a couple fish in the shallow areas approach and then pull away at the last minute. Not sure if they could see the line or didn't like the white frog (although I caught a couple nice ones on the white frog). I guess this is what keeps fishing fun…figuring out the puzzle.

The water is likely clearer this time of year, because of the absence of phytoplankton. Once the water warms above 60, the plankton will come back. All those cows had lots of nitrogen and a bit of phosphorus to the lake. All things need to get a good bloom in the water.
