First off this is an absolute gorgeous property.  Looks like a very nice golf course.  I kinda felt under dressed.  My son and I started out on several topwaters with no luck, but we aren't overly patient so I grabbed my Texas rigged Rage craw and Michael grabbed his squarebill.  We caught 67 and culled 45. Biggest fish was 5 1/2#, pulled her out of a brush top back in the creek channel. Plenty of action and a really big fish was surely gonna smash the next cast. The boat is really nice and comfortable for two big guys.  The batteries lasted all day.  The weather was kinda hit and miss drizzle and sunshine.60 low and 75 for the high temp  Water clarity was 16-18".  Saw 3 does early playing in 1 ft deep water way in the back of the creek channel and a little buck walked the bank toward the dam about 4:30 in the afternoon.  Mr Rocky is such a gracious host. He even came down and asked us to come up for burgers.  Guys get up off the couch and get out to this property if at all possible.  It's a showpiece with opportunities of some monster fish!

Shayne,

Sounds like a great day! I'm headed there Friday and was wondering if you would be so kind as to give a bit more info on colors and patterns for a relatively new member?

Thanks,

Jeff

Of course!  We Texas rigged creature baits (brush hogs, Rage Craws, and speed craws) with a 3/0 hook and as light of a weight as you can fish depending on the wind.  You want to fish it SLOW and in/ around the stick ups and sunken brush tops.  We dipped the claws and tails in spike it chartreaus with garlic most of the time but they smashed it without it too.  The squarebill was a copper nose blue gill color and the more you could bump it into the wood and stop it for just a second the more they liked it.  Way back in the creek channels I did better Texas rigged but Michael did equally well with the square bill.  I’ve seen a few reports where people experienced a quality topwaters bite but we did not for whatever reason.  I hope this helps.  When you get there you will see what I mean by “every cast there’s hopes of a true hungry fat girl”.  If you have any real specifics feel free to call or text me at 318-680-7004.

Colors of the creature baits were watermelon red, green pumpkin which they seemed to love and I tried red bug but didn’t have much luck on it.  Good luck!

I did well there two weeks ago in the back half of the lake using pumpkinseed Senkos. Caught a 4.5 and a 6.8. And yes, it is beautiful!
