Launched the boat and surprised how off color the water was near the dam.  The further you went north in the creek channel the clearer it got.   Worked the dam  and started up the east side and things were slow. We were maybe averaging a fish every 30 minutes.  Throwing top water and soft flukes and a few other things including the kitchen sink.  Just couldn't get a handle on location or a pattern.  Finally down in the southwest corner picked up a nice fish on a black buzzbait.  A few more fish here and there. At this point around 5 pm we probably had 8 bass boated for six hours of fishing. Of the eight only two fish around 14/15 inches the other six went from 3 pounds to 6 pounds.  Then the witching hour started and we went to either black or white ribbit frogs.  Caught 12 more fish in two hours on top water and all of them healthy from 3 to 6 pounds. They were hammering the bait and our rods were bent and the drag screaming.  I did have 10 lb. Fireline on my rod which is totally a change for me.  Thank God as I could keep them above the weeds.  Saw a lot of white Tilapia swimming around and tons of small bait fish.  The weeds were maybe two feet below the surface. Ended the day at 7 pm and really felt good getting so many chunk Bass. Every time a bass boat being trailer passed us on the highway on the way  home we knew we had a better day than them.

So how does this happen I put on a totally white pop-r since the weeds were below the surface.  I had three major blowups on it. One blowup sent the pop-r sailing 3 feet. I did not have one hookup with two sets of treble hooks.  I figured white to imitate the tilapia

The improvement in the size of bass is amazing since 2001.  Get yourself out there for some great top water fishing before it gets too cold.

Bob,

Thanks for the report. If this lake was an hour closer to Dallas it would be full all the time and more money to fish. We have added tilapia every year for the past 4 years and the weights of the fish have skyrocketed. 6 years ago all the fish looked the exact same. 14 to 15 inches and 1.5 lbs. Now, there are lots of fish in the 3 to 5 lb range. We also have electrofished some giants.

This lake has been in the club for 18 years and one our long time members have forgotten about. Lastly, it is a heck of a value at $40 per half day and $60 for a full day.

Here is one we electrofished. Not sure who is fatter, me or the fish! Not a flattering picture of me, but who's looking at me, when you see a pretty girl like this 9lb+ beauty.
