My first trip to Hat and Star was a hot one. Morning clouds gave way to afternoon sun, and with no wind and high humidity, it was very uncomfortable. Water temps ranged from 86 in the morning, to 92 in the afternoon. The water is very clear, and, like Timber Lake, the trees and brush are unforgiving. I broke off 3 fish with 20 lb test trilene big game. Ended up with 27 (16 harvested), with the largest being 3 1/2 pounds. Most were caught early and late on a chug bug, and 3 on a frog. I had limited success on a Texas rig fishing the numerous brush piles in the lake. This is a beautiful property, and i'm sure there are monsters in the water, but i couldn't find one. This time of year there are too many good places for them to hide.
The launch area makes it very easy to get in and out of the water with my Ranger RT188.
As I said earlier, I caught 3 on a frog. Those were the only bites I got on the frog, and I hooked all 3 of them. That's way better than i normally do with a frog. I saw a youtube video about changing hooks on a frog; most come with 3/0 or 4/0 hooks. I ordered some 6/0 hooks and changed one of my frogs. It sure worked for me on Saturday. I'll be changing several of my favorites to 6/0 hooks before my next outing.

James - your informative reports are much appreciated and thanks for the advice on the hook-change for plastic frogs.
