This was our first trip to Mallard Lake at Rough Creek Lodge. We fished all day Saturday, Aug 20.  Our first impression was that this lake is not very private - there were people fishing from the dock and shoreline, and there are boats for the lodge guests to use. We were the only fishermen fishing from a boat, however.  The lake is listed as 80 acres but is very much choked up with water plants, so the fishable acreage is probably down to about 35 acres.  We caught the weather just right. It was rainy and windy at times, calm at others, and it was cool and cloudy throughout the day.  The bass were reluctant to hit anything topwater, although I did catch a 3 pounder on a tiny buzz. The bite began very slow so we went small on lure selection and began picking up fish.  We caught about 20 bass over 2 pounds, the biggest weighing in at about 4.  We also caught about 15 large crappie.  The total fish count was around 80, but many were small.  We might try this lake again when it is off-season.
