Fry
Fished AM on 7/9, from 6:30 to noon. Fishing was slow. Water stained (but not muddy as in previous trip about a month earlier). Lake is full (not flowing into overflow pipe but about 3" under). Coontail was thick, but still relatively fishable. Didn’t bother with my electronics, but I’m sure water temp was in upper 80’s.
Nothing on topwater or frogs early.
Caught 4 bass. (1) 2.5, (1) 2.0, and (2) under 12”
I usually do well on this lake but last two times have been slow. All but one fish caught on a 5” senko (dead-sticked). One (small) on swimbait. Color didn’t seem to make any difference. Tried downsizing baits as well, but no results. No hits on flukes, small spinnerbaits, or curly tail worms. All hits in the coontail (varying depths). Nothing on brushpiles by dam.
Also: (1) caught what looked like a rock bass or warmouth (very red eyes) but probably a green sunfish spawning, (2) spooked a feral boar (best guess 250 -300 lbs.) that circled back behind the lake and bedded down behind the N. shoreline, and (3) heard several coyotes howling early. Kinda cool.
