I took my daughter to Twin Lakes on Saturday, 7/9/16.  She is 19 and a pretty good "stick" for someone who only fishes once or twice a year (college soccer player).  We started about 6:30 am on the East Lake with cloudy skies and some wind; seemed like a perfect morning for a good topwater bite.  Got one hit (and missed it) early on a frog, but that was it for topwaters.  Tried the whole tackle box, but only had 1 big brim and 3 bass (each about 2 pounds) when we broke for lunch about 11:30.

We drove to Ben Wheeler for lunch and went to Moore's Store.  Highly suggest the chicken fried steak; it comes with a dessert that is simple but wonderful.  It's a cold, sliced Snickers bar that is drizzled with chocolate syrup and raspberry syrup.

So, back to Twin Lakes and this time the West Lake.  Conditions were very similar at both lakes; visibility to about 18 inches with heavy weeds around the bank and scattered weeds out to about 6-7 feet.  We were not looking forward to the afternoon based on our lack of fish in the morning session, but West Lake had a surprise for us.   It was hotter and a little more wind, but the fish really wanted to eat.  The lake is a little smaller than East Lake, and when you factor in that the upper third of the lake is pretty heavy weeded (and 94.5 degrees), we only had the lower 2/3 to fish (from about the launch area and where the trees are standing, back to the dam).  We caught fish on watermelon and green pumpkin wacky senkos, with an occasional T-rig, buzzbait, squarebill, and spinnerbait thrown in, but by far the senko was #1.   We were forced to leave the lake at 7:00 when the big storm that went through Dallas arrived.  With lightning crashing all around, the lake went from dead calm to white-capping in a matter of seconds.  fortunately, the boat was on the trailer and we were getting ready to pull out.  how many did we catch from 3:00 to 7:00?  Well, we lost count, but our guess is 35-40, with the largest being 4-08 and 4-06.  We also lost 3 fish that broke 20 lb test big game.  It was amazing, and made us forget how hard we had worked that morning.  I really wanted to go back over to the East Lake and see if the fish were turned on there, but the action was so fast that i didn't want to waste the time.

A long day for sure, but it's days like this, sharing your love for fishing with your daughter, that you never forget.  It was also funny that when we started catching fish, she was taking a picture of each one and sending it (snapchat??) to several of her guy friends that like to fish; pretty funny.
