My son and I fished Timber Lake on 7/7 all day and 7/8 a half day.  We got started about 6:45 trying a top toad and a popping frog. No luck.  But that quickly passed when we swapped over to a swim jig/skinny dipper trailer and a chatterbait/crawfish trailer. It was AWESOME!  We caught about 30 fish including a 5lb 15oz and a 5lb 5oz and harvested 8. All the fish were hard fighters and loved wrapping us up in the deadfall. Do not come here with wimpy tackle or you will be heartbroken. After a break for lunch and a nap we got back out on the water about 4:30. The bites never stopped. We picked up football jigs with crawfish trailers and got smashed. Let me tell you, winching fish out of wood is as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. We caught another 32-35 fish most in the 2-4lb range. Harvested 6. The next morning came early.  Again no topwater bite. Swapped over to the jigs and chatter and swim jigs and business picked up.  Ended up with 115-120 fish total.  Harvested 22 total. Water clarity was 18-24”. Wind was pretty tough to deal with but going up in the creeks helped with that. Other than being out in the middle of nowhere this place is a blast to fish. PWF has made me a believer. Now I’ve gotta find somewhere to help me get the bends outta my rods

Post #1 is going to be hard to beat!  Great job Shayne.  You and I are cut of the same cloth as I absolutely love horsing fish out of the thick stuff also.  And watching the sun rise over Timber Lake is one of my favorite past times.  Glad you two got a nice day out on the water before your boy is too busy.

Shayne,

Did you notice in shad in the lake? Usually flickers in open water is a give away. We added them a couple of years back and not sure if they are still in there.

Yes sir.  I saw several balls of bait fish. They were about 3” long.

Timber Lake is overlooked in my opinion.  The available boats are pretty Spartan.  It’s in the middle of nowhere. No lodging. BUT ITS ONE HELLUVA LOTTA FUN TO FISH!

from my past experience, from the day it opened it was, and think it still is, fished quite often.. been known for years as a great "go to" place.. so was its sister, Deer Trail, a lake down from it that we sadly lost in last years floods,, hopefully to return some day..
