Fingerling
We (Myself, my son and his friend, both 11) got to the property around 6:15a but with a storm coming over, we were forced to wait. At about 7:15a the storm passed over and we made our way on the water.
We got our boat launched and got over towards the center of the lake. I decided to stop there to allow the boys to practice casting a couple times to get used to casting around each other (my boat is small for three people). They both cast out and immediately both had fish on at the same time. Both got the fish to the boat and one of them had a 4 pounder and the other had a 5 pounder on. We went on crushing the fish for the next couple hours.
We caught 30+ fish combined with the average being around the 3 lb mark and the largest going for 6 lbs. We only had 4 fish under the slot and our best five averaged 5. At one point, I caught a 3 lber, as I was reeling it in, a 2 lber hit the popper and I had two fish at the same time. That was a first for me.
We caught all of our fish on top water (buzz and poppers). When the top water bite finally slowed, we threw spinners, cranks, frogs, plastics, and chatterbaits and did not get a single hit. Just for giggles I threw out my popper again and BANG, had another on. After one more, the top water bite was gone and nothing we threw at them got their attention.
We had an overcast most of the day until around 11 when the sun finally peeked its head. The water was a Texas tea color with low visibility (probably due from rain) and was very murky/muddy back in the cove. The lake has thick hydrilla about 20 - 30 ft from the bank all the way around the lake.
At 12p we loaded up and headed home. My son and his buddy have not stopped talking about the awesome day we had.
