Mallard Lake was excellent.  Noley Bice and I fished out of our Hobie kayaks and caught over 40 bass with good average size, plus a few in the 5 to 6lb range.  We caught these in four and a half hours, starting around 9:30 until 2:00. They hit buzz baits early and then mostly wacky worms during the afternoon. I also caught two of the largest black crappie that I've ever caught on crawdads.  I believe one would have exceeded 2 lbs.

One suggestion if you go—after checking in with the lodge, go back across the low water crossing and take the first left.  This will take you to the boat ramp. We were not directed to this ramp and had a difficult time unloading and launching the kayaks; fortunately, we found the ramp while fishing and it made the loading a breeze.
