Plenty of Fish at Post Oak

There are so many good lakes in PWF!  Each lake has it's own personality.  San Saba and Caresend are unexcelled at producing lots of quality bass with the possibility of catching a trophy on every cast.  Yates has so many giant bass that is is unreal. The Heartland 10-10 set of lakes provide more diversity of cover and lots of giant bass. Bennett has lots of big fish with a good mix of small medium and giant bass.  Many other PWF lakes that I have fished  have characteristics that make them unique and fun to fish any time of year.  Many other lakes I have yet to fish, but I intend to correct that in the coming years, but from your fishing reports it sounds like they each have something unique to offer.  When it comes to catching lots of bass from 2-6 pounds, I would put Post Oak at the very top!

Saturday was an great day of fishing that produced a steady flow of solid fish.  Lots of fish in the 2-5 pound range with a few pushing 6.  The top water bite was on most of the day which leads to a really special day of fishing.  The fishing was as good as it gets and really defies the imagination.  Jigs, Flukes and Top water lures produced the vast majority of the fish.  Wind was light and the water temperature, air temperature and solar lunar tables lined up for a truly magical day of fishing.

I was wondering what the winter water draw down would do to the fishing with the weed cover being knocked back dramatically.  Now that the spring rains have raised the water level back to normal levels I can tell you that the fishing is even better than before, and it was already very good.  If you have never fished Post Oak, you really need to go!

Bill, I sure wish I could join you for that trip.  Family obligations will prevent me from fishing with you on this go around.  Make sure you have your Pop-R, Yellow Magic or whatever surface popper handy.  I have really had a lot of luck on that style lure.  Swim Jig, Chatter bait or similar has always been a good bait for me on this lake.

I usually fish out of my 10 foot Bass Raider on PWF trips.  I would like to fish with you sometime to see how you have your kayak rigged.  I have a kayak, but I haven't gotten all the kinks worked out with mine,

Bruce. Great info. I will have June 17-26 open so maybe we can schedule a day there. My kayak is the Predator XL with the Minn Koto motor. What kayak do you own?

Bill, I have a NuCanoe Frontier.  It is a nice little kayak.

I should be able to make one of those days work.  I never know my schedule that far in advance.  Let's touch base as the time approaches.

Godspeed!

Bill, I typically can’t make plans until the Monday of the week in question.  My schedule tends to be dependent on many others.  If you need to make plans, please don’t let my availability be a hinderance.  I can keep you posted as I find out more.

Bruce. Since I am fairly available that week, which day may be better? Usually they will block the day before and after to rest the fish. I may fish Giddings the day before.
