Decided to try to beat the rain with a half day Saturday afternoon at a property I've never gotten around to fishing at Pecan Springs. Only had a few light drizzles that passed quickly, but the wind was blowing hard enough that my 10 pound anchor was having trouble holding the Busterboat so I spent more time than I cared for struggling with boat position. Note to self: get a bigger anchor.
Fishing was very solid. After reading a previous report I went with C-rigged watermelon seed senkos dipped in Spike It, and caught 8 all between 2 and 3.5 pounds. None hit it hard but all put up a good fight and looked healthy, took a picture of one of the average fish. Nothing on rattletraps although I didn't throw those for too long. Didn't catch anything up in the shallowest end of the lake, which was unfortunate since that's where I could finally catch a break from the wind. Since the wind was down at that end I also threw some topwater for a bit and nothing. None of the PVC pipes are visible, but there's enough flooded structure along the shore lines that I stuck with that and that's where I had my luck. Also never did fish the dam as that was too windy, will have to save that for next time. I'd been bracing myself for a day of cull fish after reading some of the previous reports, but glad to say that wasn't the case.
Also, the property is just beautiful. Had two deer and a hog keep me company for better part of a half hour. Only 45 miles away too.
