I fished all day yesterday, and couldn't have asked for a prettier day. The sky was mostly cloud-free, and the wind varied from calm to about 15 mph - but mostly below 5 mph. The fishing, on the other hand, was a challenge. I was "snake-bit" for much of the day - I hooked and lost more bass than I boated.
Starting out at the east lake, I fished from 7:00 until 10:00, mostly with hollow body frogs, Ribbits, and topwater baits with very few casts made with plastics. I did hook one big fish that threw the Ribbit back at me. The east lake has pretty clear water that was mostly in the high 60s. The west lake, which s usually my favorite - and produced my PB - was tough. The water was very clear with temps up into the 70s, but it was difficult to finish a retrieve through any kind of cover without either snot grass or brown gunk on your line or lure.
Productive lures were the hollow-body frog, a bull Ribbit frog, Senkos rigged weightless and wacky, and a topwater. I ended up with 10 bass in the boat, all under 3 pounds. All were caught either on the surface or in less than 3 feet of water. If the bass didn't hit the Senko within 5 seconds of the cast, they wouldn't hit it at all.
Mr. Birt and his wife came down in his golf cart, and we had a nice, but short visit. Nice folks.
