Scheduled a trip to the East Lake with my Father in law about a month ago hoping to get on the spring spawn action. I made the trip from Houston and he made the trip from Dallas. We fished Saturday, March 19th.
Conditions: Cloudy/Overcast
Wind: North 15-20 with gust estimated to be 25 mph
Water Temp: Unknown but estimated 60 to 62
Clarity: 6-8 inches
Time: 7AM to 7PM
Boated 12, returned 2 of them. The 2 returned were a 2.5 and 5 pounder. The dinks were between 8" and 14".
It was a very tough trip due to the water clarity and the wind. Very limiting on were we could fish. If your familiar with Rocky's lake, then the west cove and the far south shallows is were we spent the majority of our time. We did venture out and tried to fish the deep side of the channel but the unprotected part of the lake was brutal due to the high wind. By noon, we had boated 2 dinks. We broke for lunch at noon and decided to stretch our legs so we ate at the truck. Rocky came to visit and recommended to keep throwing top water. Second half of the day, it was almost pure top water throwing and going as far as the boat would take us in the south end of the lake. Any day of fishing is a blessing and although we didn't get into a mess of them, we still had a great time. Looking forward to returning to catch some big'uns once it warms back up.
Cheers!
