A friend and I drove into Gilmer Saturday with high hopes of a very exciting fish trip.  When we arrived, the skies were cloudy and drizzling rain.  We got started fishing around the dam and it didn’t take long for things to get fired up.  By my third cast, I had boated my first keeper of the day. :)  If I’m keeping them, they aren’t what we were looking for.  Within the first hour, we had boated 6 fish.  3 bass, the biggest being a 18.5 inch release fish and the others, well they were in the cooler along with (3) 15 inch crappie.  Not all bad but they shut off and the wind picked up.  So about 2 pm we took a break and ran to Gilmer to grab something to eat.  When we got back on the water, things were about the same, windy, cloudy but no rain nor fish.  At about 3:30 they turned on.  I think every fish in the lake between 9 and 13 inches bit.  We finished the day with 2 throw backs and 21 keepers along with the 3 crappie.  Most were caught on small white spinner baits, and silver shadow minnows.  Not quite what we envisioned but hey, I was fishing with my best friend.  Tight line guys!!
