Hit the lake at sun up. Still very cold this morning so things were slow as expected. Thinks picked up around 10am and I landed 6 fish and had roughly 10 other good bites. All action was on a heavy minnow head jig with a large swimtail senko on the hook. Overall a successful day considering the windy conditions did not really allow the lake to heat up.
Many thanks to whomever put out the two new beefed up brushpiles. I had 6 good hookups in total out of these. Would love a few more if possible.
Lastly, question for the group. As mentioned above I got a number of good bites on heavy jig and swimtail combo but consistently lost fish on the retrieve. Does anyone have a hookset technique they find works well with this rig?

With any jig-type lure, I try to set the hook upward, rather than sideways. That usually ensures that the hook penetrates the top of the mouth, which in my opinion makes it more difficult for the bass to throw the hook. I might be all wet here, but this usually works best for me. A good, stiff rod tip helps, too - like a medium-heavy, fast action.
