Decided not to let a warm winter day go to waste and went out to BlackJack early morning before the rain hit for a few hours of tube fishing. The water is at a good level, about a foot below the dock. 70 degrees air temp, and it was a little windy, but not too windy to mess up fishing. Started out catching a nice 2.5 pounder right beside the dock with a texas rigged worm. It was pretty steady fishing, and ended up with 14 total fish by 10:00, and only two under 14". The rest were in the 1.5 to 3 lb range. I caught everything with either a texas rigged worm or a rattle trap, usually about 10' - 20' from the bank. The fish were pretty aggressive, and most looked pretty healthy. Would have caught 4 more if I'd have put bigger hooks on my rattle trap. Seems that when largemouths jump they usually spit the rattle traps if they still have the smaller original hooks. Oh, and I probably would have stayed a little longer if I didn't have a leak in my waders. Got a little chilly after a while and I decided to call it a day. Par for the course, or at least some of my courses, anyway. But it was a good day of fishing on a property I really enjoy.
