The trees around the East Lake are dying with disease, so the land owner was clearing and had been burning.  He started a fire that quickly enveloped the lake in smoke, so I bugged out for the West Lake by 10.  (I saw him at the end of the day and he apologized profusely.  The decimated stand of trees on the south side of East Lake changed the appearance of the lake dramatically.)  Caught only 3 there in "smoke free" zone of E lake.

West Lake was in much better shape.  I was shocked by the 10-degree drop in water temperature since I fished another pond 5 days earlier prior to this first real cold snap.  Water temps started at 53 degrees.  Water is dark but clear on West lake. Only one bait would raise any interest.  Fish were a bit lethargic with the colder water and caught them ONLY in a narrow band of water depth on the lower half of the lake.  Caught 18 up to 4.6.  Caught 4 that looked stunted and most had small parasites on them.

Lakes are turning over and I expect this one is ready.  A pair of bald eagles are nesting nearby and they put on a show for me late in the morning.  Fun day.
