Fished Friday late for a few hours and then Saturday from first light to noon. I'd read that the water level was down so I decided to just bank fish. With waders and a willingess to fight the mud, most of the lake is accessible now to bank fishing.

Previous report from about a month ago was still spot on. Texas rigged watermelon red fleck Senkos were the ticket. Quit keeping track after a dozen fish, most in the 1.5 to 3 pound range, with a few scattered larger fish. All very healthy looking and putting up excellent fights. Heaviest action was on the west shoreline and the large structure in the middle of the lake. Caught the biggest fish pictured here about halfway up the channel on my only topwater hit of the trip on a baby spook.

I got tired just reading your post.  Walking in waders, wading in mud!  You got your exercise.   Did you fish the upper lake?  I've tried bank fishing there in the spring when everything was muddy.  Never did catch anything in the upper.  Always did good at the upper to lower spillway, fishing in the lower. Nice looking fish by the way.  Are the weeds still on surface?   I'm going to finish the Sunday paper and then take a nap for you. LOL.

Yessir, definitely got my workout in for the day. I only hit the upper lake for about 10 minutes right before I left, and only from the dock as much to see what it looked like than anything. Didn't catch anything there in just that brief time.

There are still some weeds on the surface of the south lake, particularly on the east shore, but the water in most of those spots with weeds on the surface was only about knee deep. I don't fish with electronics when I take the JerMar boats or canoe out, so I'd never really had any sense of the depths at most parts of the lake. Wading it like I did gave me a good chance to start gauging that over the main body of the lake and I was surprised how much of that portion is still 3 feet of water or less (I'm a short guy and I could get within 30 feet of the structure in the middle of the lake and still be in waist deep water). I still spent some time throwing a frog up onto the mat on the east shore but like I said nothing was interested.
