Fingerling
I took a couple of guest John and Rob to Black Jack to enjoy some bass fishing on a beautiful Friday afternoon. The water was stained and the shoreline had shrank about 7 feet from the last time I was there in July. The grass in the water was nearly all gone with exception of a few patches you could see and some you could feel with your lure. It turned out to be kind of a two part trip so to speak.
We arrived about 12:30 and began fishing right away walking the bank using Texas rigged plastics, John started with an 18" fighter that nearly swallowed his rig, I followed shortly after with a very strong bite and had it on for a good ten seconds and lost it. Did not see the fish but it was not a dink, that much i can tell you. A few minutes later i did hook up with an nice 16" bass. John and i continued to work the bank along the side and down the dam. John switched to a chatterbait and was picking up nice fish sporadically. I stayed with the Texas rigged plastics and missed a couple of more very strong bites then switched my hook out and picked up a couple of more. Rob was interested in the pier and was first to venture out in the boat. The wind was a little strong mid afternoon so Rob abandoned the boat and began walking the bank. So the afternoon proved to be kind of slow with John doing the best with his chatterbait, i think Rob switched over to a chatterbait and missed one and caught one.
Part two was where the fun began. We decided around 7 pm to put the boat away and all of our gear with exception of our floating frogs. We were going to hit the dam one more time on our way out and boy am i glad we did. my second or third cast was destroyed by a hungry bass coming out of the water with frog in mouth. A couple of cast later i missed a big explosion on the bank just before lifting the frog out of the water. By this time Rob was tying on a frog and looking for some new water to fish around the corner from me. John was down the bank from me on the dam and i saw him miss one. After all said and done in about 20 minutes of dusk frog fishing we had a total four caught and at least that many misses. There is something so electrifying about a top water bite that keeps me coming back.
For the day we had a total of 17 bass with 16 inches being the smallest of all. John measured his big frog bite to be 21 inches and he had a 22 inch earlier on the chatterbait. Very fun day!

Great Report! Thanks for taking time to write such a thorough report. I can't tell you how many times I said last cast, and was still fishing 100 casts later. It gets in your blood. Sometimes you are rewarded for sticking it out to the end.
