Scott Balch and I fished the morning of September 19th at Hat and Star. Winds were calm and the temp started out in the mid 70's. We fished from our kayaks. Between 7:30 and 8:00 AM Scott hooked up. I was just a few yards away and got to see all the excitement. He fought the fish for several seconds before she broke the surface and that was when I saw he had hooked into a big fish. When he finally landed her he weighed an 8 lb personal best! We harvested 9 fish below 16" the rest of the morning that finished out a good day at the lake. He caught the big girl on a Matrix Shad “Lemon Head” fished on a 1/4oz white jig head. She was hooked in about 5 feet of water, but we think she followed the bait from about 18" to 2 feet of water. All the rest of our fish were close to the bank.
