I was on the water around 7:15am. I forgot it's significantly colder in the country than in the city. Thankfully, I threw a long sleeve shirt in the car at the last minute b/c the temp was 55! There is a solid 30ft of lily pads so be prepared to paddle your butt off in order to reach open water. It's a bear! After beating the lily pads, I fished for a solid 3.5 hours and caught probably 25 2-4 pounders mostly on a rattle trap about 10ft out from the pads and another 10 or so 1.5 pounders and less. I quit counting after awhile. Anyway, Deer Trail is worth a trip if you like fishing fast, chunking and winding and catching some really fat, healthy and hard fighting bass.
