Fished half a day on Labor Day, 9/7/15. Took my 5 YO on the boat for his first time. We got on the water at 8AM and fished until 11AM. We started on the edge for the first 30 minutes and no bites and no luck. My son was getting discouraged so I decided to move across to the other side of the lake. As We were moving I noticed tons of perch on my fish finder in the middle of the lake by all the trees sticking up. I decided to stop and let him throw his rod with bobber and worm. As I was praying for him to catch something, I threw my swim jig with a trailer out by a tree sticking out. First cast and I bite happened. It was non stop after that. We never saw the edge after that. We stayed in the middle the whole time and fished around all the trees and picked them out from depths ranging from 10-17 feet. Water temperature was 84. It was amazing and non stop. My son had a blast and I got my bass fix after not fishing in the last 3 months.

Glad you caught them. So many members miss out, because they simply want to fish the banks. I know fishing without electronics is a challenge when you are fishing off the bank. But simple fish finders for $200 can be had to give you depths, humps and ridges.

Steve is absolutely correct. Until last year, I had never spent over $150 for a depth finder, and I still seemed  to catch my share of bass. Now I can say that I've never spent of $250 on one.

Several years ago I replaced my death finder that I probably spent $120 for. I spent the same amount for the newer one and it made more features - water temp and battery charge status.

True. Honestly I use my fish finder more for water temp and depth vs. using it to “find fish”. I never been a big believer in deep fishing only because I never take my time and I am a true bank fisherman but for first time I’m starting to focus on water temp, depth, season, wind, etc…. It was fun. And my son got worn out helping me reel in bass.
