Fry
Fished Sunday morning (9/6) from 7am to noon with member Cliff Holloway and a guest. We caught a total of 8 bass, with most of them coming in the first 2 hours in the northeast cove in open water. The last fish was caught about 11:30am. Cliff's fish was the largest at about 4.5# (20") and was caught on a watermelon red weightless Senko in the trees on the eastern shore. All of my fish were caught on red Finesse or Trick worms rigged on a shakyhead jig with our guest having some luck using a watermelon seed fluke below a swivel and split shot.
There was no top water bite and only one or two short strikes on a spinner bait. We saw a few schools of 6" - 8" bass swirling at the top of the water, and a few small fish trying to catch mating dragonflies between the inner edge of the grass line and the shoreline. The fish we caught were healthy and mostly right around the 14" range, with one 6" bass caught when he hung on to a finesse worm's tail too long, never taking the hook. We harvested one fish that was hooked deep and didn't recover.
The grass lining the shore goes around the entire lake, and it looks like it should hold some fish, but we didn't have much luck with it. It's a mixture of milfoil and other grass types with a matted, slimy consistency. One fish was caught in an isolated patch of grass near the west end of the submerged tank dam.
We always enjoy fishing this property and hope to be back once the weather (and water) cools a bit.
