First off, driving through the motorized gates you can tell this is going to be a beautiful, well-maintained property.  And you are not disappointed.  It looks like a Highland Park area stuck in the middle of backwoods East Texas.

We got on the water about 6:30am; the water was perfectly still and there was no air moving at all.  In 15 minutes dad caught the first fish of the day on an avocado/fire tail fluke, and she was a beauty:  8lbs 13oz.  For the rest of the day however, we only caught dinks that were all 12" or below.  We caught 25 more fish, and not a single one in the 3-6lbs range, which is something most of our club lakes excel at.  While I'm not complaining, I would be lying if I said it wasn't a disappointing trip for me (if only I had caught the 8-13!).  Beautiful lake, beautiful property, boats were great, just wish there were more fish to be had in that range.  And with an all day trip, believe me we went through the entire tackle box.  Outside of 2 fish, EVERY fish we caught was on a fluke.  Very unusual.  We tried Senkos, crankbaits, T-rigs, Rat-L-Traps, swimbaits, buzzbaits, sexy dawgs, horny toads, everything.  We had NO topwater bite at all, not even a slap or two.

One note:  the massive wasp nest is still there - we almost ran into it but thankfully avoided it at the last minute.  Dad's big girl is below, just 4oz shy of his personal best.

Zach,

Your catch records are exactly what others have said and the same thing we found in our shock survey last week. There are dozens of giant 8 lb plus fish in this lake, maybe more than a hundred. But very few fish in the 2-4 lb size. There are thousands of dinks to 1.5 lb fish that must come out. This lake is for trophy hunters or those who appreciate a spectacularly built lake with lots of deep water, humps and ridges. As you mentioned the property is a show place and one the owner takes great pride in. We need to remove 1000 small bass this year and next year and we will see the number of 2-5 lb fish grow exponentially.

We shocked up a 26 inch 9lb beauty last week. See the owner and Seth below.

The head on that fish looks like she might have been 12# during the bedding season!  Nice fish!
